The Piecemaker

Emily Friday is an afro-Latina multidisciplinary artist Brooklyn born and Orlando raised where she currently resides. She is a self-taught artist with no formal art training but has been an artist at heart since childhood. From coloring books and sketching her favorite Disney characters while watching movies to scrapbooking as a teen, using her creativity and working with her hands has always brought her true joy. 

She first picked up a paintbrush in 2013 creating her own dorm room artwork. By 2015 her entrepreneurial journey began after making custom painted baseball hats for her boyfriend(now husband). Attention grew amongst her peers and thus Soulful Muse was born out of her dorm. Creating custom hats, jackets and paintings for her customers. 

Over the years Emily has explored several art mediums from painting to graphic design, woodburning and more recently printmaking. Across all mediums she often uses bold colors and pop art style. She enjoys creating work inspired by the world around her and connecting her pieces with the common symbolism of lines, showing that all living things are made of connected, intertwined linework. The lines on a slab of wood remind her of the lines that compose our fingerprints. No two alike, all uniquely telling a story showing that we are all living, and thriving on this earth. 

Emily is an artist, wife, business woman, daughter, sister and friend. She embraces her many talents and in true Gemini fashion doesn’t conform to just one art medium or style. Following her intuition and inspirations, she paints, woodburns, she’s a graphic designer, a printmaker and open minded to whatever else knows the future holds. She creates whatever she’s inspired to share with the world. The world around her acts as her many muses from fashion, culture, women, nature, music, travel, etc… Realizing that we can live many versions of ourselves in one lifetime, she creates what she likes to call Pieces. These pieces of art are pieces of her. Thus the Piecemaker was born.
